Introduction to Telecommunication:

INTRODUCTION - Optical Fiber Cable

An optical fibre cable is a cable that consisting of one or more optical fibres. The optical fibre elements are generally individually coated with plastic layers and consisted in a protective tube appropriate for the environment in which the cable will be deployed.

An overview of Cable:

In practical fibres, the cladding is generally coated with a tough resin buffer layer that may be further surrounded through a jacket layer, generally plastic. These layers include strength to the fibre but don't contribute to optical wave of it guide properties. Rigid fibre assemblies occasionally put light-absorbing ("dark") glass among the fibres, to avoid light that leaks out of one fibre from entering other. This decrease cross-talk among the fibres or decreases flares in fibre bundle imaging applications.

All of the four connectors comprise white caps covering the ferrules.

The jacketed fibre is usually enclosed for indoor applications along with a bundle of flexible fibrous polymer strength members such as Aramid (example Twaron or Kevlar), in a lightweight plastic cover to make a simple cable. Each end of the cable might be ended with a particular optical fibre connector to permit it to be easily connected and disconnected from receiving and transmitting equipment.

CABLE TYPES:

1. OFC: Optical fibre, conductive

2. OFN: Optical fibre, nonconductive

3. OFCP: Optical fibre, conductive, plenum

4. OFNP: Optical fibre, nonconductive, plenum

5. OFCG: Optical fibre, conductive, general use

6. OFNG: Optical fibre, nonconductive, general use

7. OFCR: Optical fibre, conductive, riser

8. OFNR: Optical fibre, nonconductive, riser

9. OPGW: Optical fibre composite overhead ground wire
