Biochemical explanation for production of Flower color:
Dominant gene (C) controls the manufacture of a pigment precursor termed as chromogen and the dominant gene (P) is accountable for the production of the enzyme that transforms the chromogen into the pigment anthocyanin that is accountable for the purple color.
When gene C is not present there is no formation of chromogen and when gene P is not present chromogen does not get transformed to anthocyanin. Therefore both the genes have to be in dominant state for the production of purple colored flowers.
