The kidneys generally receive a plentiful blood supply of around 1200ml/min or around 20 to 25 percent of the cardiac yield. It flows via the capillaries of glomerulus where the blood pressure is comparatively very high.

The high blood pressure takes around effective filtration. The hydrostatic pressure (i.e., forward pressure 75mm/Hg.) of the blood in the afferent glomerular capillaries and the cumulative consequence of the opposition pressures and renal intratubular pressure (i.e., 10mm/Hg.) play a significant role in generating the glomerular filtrate. The hydrostatic pressure of the blood is always bigger than the opposing pressures existing in the plasma protein and renal capillaries. The fluid in the capsule that is acquired by the procedure is termed glomerular filtrate. The volume of the glomerular filtrate produced each minute is termed as glomerular filtration rate (GFR). In man it is around 125ml/min. In 24 hours the net volume of glomerular filtrate is around 170 to 180 liters.
