Reduction

Reduction:

The PGA’s two molecules are further decreased to glyceraldehyde-3- phosphates in 2 steps. 1st, two PGA molecules are converted to 1, 3 -bisphosphoglyceric acids through the enzyme PGA kinase. This reaction takes two molecules of ATP in the ratio of one ATP for every molecule of 1, 3-bisphosphoglyceric acid created.

In the 2nd step, the two molecules of 1, 3-bisphosphoglyceric acid are decreased to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphates through the enzyme glyceraldehyde- 3-phosphate dehydrogenase along with the assistance of the light generated reducing power NADPH2.

Thus, two molecules of NADPH2 will be consumed throughout this reaction. To decrease one molecule of CO2 equal to reduction two ATP and two NADPH2 are consumed.
