Types of MHC genes:

Class I MHC genes:

They encode glycoproteins stated in all nucleated cells. The major function of Class I gene products is the representation of peptide antigens to Tc cells.

Class II MHC genes:

They encode glycoproteins stated on antigen representing cells (i.e., Macrophages and B cells). They represent the processed antigen to TH cells.

Class III MHC genes:

Such genes encode mostly the proteins which have immune functions, involving components of complement system, and molecules included in inflammation. T cells play a key in role in allograft rejection. Rodents born without a thymus contain no mature T cells and can’t reject transplants. In normal rats when the thymus is eliminated before mature T cells are discharged or irradiated, they can’t reject grafts. When T cells are inoculated into such animals again, they regain the capability to reject grafts.
