Discuss contingency between behavior and reinforcement

Problem:

Summarize in a few simple sentences: The food magazine used in most of the following experiments is shown in Fig. 2. Grain is stored in the hopper (to the right of the drawing), from which it feeds into the shallow pivoted tray. A solenoid draws the tray into horizontal position, and the bird reaches the grain through a ?-inch-square aperture in the hood at the front of the magazine. Two white, 6-watt lamps are wired in parallel with the solenoid, so that the grain is well-lighted during the operation of the magazine. The second lamp is present in case one burns out during an experiment. The pivoted tray is occasionally cleaned out to remove inedible debris which slowly accumulates in it. When the magazine is not operating, the grain is not only out of reach but unlighted and scarcely visible to the bird. The actual operation of such a magazine generates the all-important conditioned reinforcing stimuli which supply a precise contingency between behavior and reinforcement. In this case the stimuli are both auditory and visual. The operation of the tray and the solenoid can easily be heard. The magazine lights illuminate the grain and usually throw a white light on the key. Such stimuli are usually amplified by arranging that all key lights and the house light go off simultaneously with the operation of the magazine. In all experiments reported here, reinforcement consists of free access to grain for from 3.5 to 4 seconds. Need Assignment Help?
