Natural resources are naturally occurring substances, which are known valuable in their relatively unmodified or natural form. Natural resources are generally classified into non-renewable and renewable resources.

Natural Resource Administration:

Natural Resource Management (NRM) or Natural Resource Administration refers to the sustainable consumption of main natural resources, as like: forests, land, air, water, minerals, fisheries, and wild fauna and flora.

Mutually, these resources give the ecosystem services, which underpin human life. The perspective of this paper is that, NRM must contribute to poverty alleviation, and that natural resources should be utilized in a sustainable way to improve human welfare. Whereas poverty sustainable and alleviation Natural Resource Management are usually compatible, complicated tradeoffs may arise at times. But the fact remains that without any poverty alleviation, the environment in rising countries will carry on degrading, and without better Natural Resource Management, poverty alleviation will be undermined.

The core function of Natural Resource Administration is to protect, conserve, and enhance the soil, water, and living resources and to keep aquatic resources from pollution and degradation. Natural Resource Administration achieves its objectives by utilizing a combination of District and federal authorities, as like: strategic planning; enforcing and setting water quality standards; and assessing and monitoring the quality of the wildlife and aquatic resources. The Natural Resource Administration is comprised of four divisions as:

Fisheries & Wildlife Division (FWD):

The Fisheries and Wildlife Division (FWD) implements programs and increases maintains for urban fish and wildlife conservation, recreation, protection, and sustainability. FWD attains its objectives via employing innovative and traditional scientific techniques to acquire the best natural resource data accessible, and via elevating environmental awareness and stewardship by outreach, education and community involvement. Fisheries and Wildlife Division has two branches as:

  • The Fisheries Management Branch conducts yearly surveys and studies of resident and migratory fish in the District waterways.
  • The Wildlife Management Branch preserves wildlife resources for the health and District resident’s enjoyment.

Water Quality Division (WQD):

The Water Quality Division (WQD protects) and restores the surface and ground waters of the District by: enforcing and setting water quality standards; assessing and monitoring the quality of the aquatic and waters resources; and implementing and developing policies to restore and protect the water quality and aquatic resources. Water Quality Division has two branches as:

  • The Enforcement Branch and Permitting Branch confirm federal water-quality permits.
  • The Assessment and Monitoring Branch collects water quality data and analyzes vegetation and fish.

Watershed Protection Division (WPD):
The Watershed Protection Division (WPD) preserves the water and soil resources of the District and conserves its watersheds by nonpoint source pollution. The watershed protection division has three branches that are:

  • The Technical Services Branch: it assists developers and reviews plans and the public on water issues.
  • The Enforcement and Inspection Branch: it monitors existing sites and construction projects for compliance along with regulations and laws.

Storm Water Management Division:

SWMD administers the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) allow issued to three district agencies that are: DDOT, DPW and DDOE; and WASA through the US EPA under the NPDES that is National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, and oversees their activities to make sure that allow compliance activities are implemented, budgeted and prioritized.
