Such strains infect numerous avian species, and mammals. They cause diseases like: Ornithosis, Psittacosis, Feline pneumonitis, Bovine abortion. Such are resistant to sulfonamides.

3. Chlamydia pneumoniae:

Unique human pathogen.

4. Chlamydia pecorum:

All Chlamydia share a common series of events in their reproduction.

The infectious particle is a minute cell. It is termed as elementary body, 0.3 µm in size. It has electron dense nucleoid. It is taken into the host cell by phagocytosis. A vacuole derived from host cell membrane forms approximately small particle.

The small particle is modernized into a large one. It is termed as Initial body, 0.5 µm in size. It is devoid of electron dense nucleoid
Large particle develops in size within the vacuole. It splits repeatedly by binary fission and the vacuole is filled with small particles termed as inclusion.
