Nature of Downsizing is of mainly two types:

1) In the short-term strategy, it trims down manpower strength quickly. It is an expensive activity.
2) A long-term downsizing may be needed due to:
(a) introduction of faster and latest technologies and new work techniques.
(b) Failure of huge number of employees in upper age groups to deal with the latest technologies, due to not having required skill and knowledge.
