New Media

New Media:

We explain "new media" as interactive types of communication which use the Internet, as well as podcasts, social networks, RSS feeds, text messaging, wikis, blogs, virtual worlds and further!

New media makes this possible for everyone to modify, create, and share content and share this along with others, utilizing relatively easiest tools which are frequently inexpensive or free. New media needs a mobile or computer device along with Internet access.

New media tools can help you:

CONNECT people along with services and information. This comprises connecting individuals with healthcare providers and people living along with HIV along with one another. New media can also connect the friends, families and caregivers of people living along with HIV and AIDS to resources for their loved ones and themselves.

COLLABORATE along with other people—as well as those inside your community or organization.

CREATE new services, communities, content, and channels of communication that assist you deliver information and services.

Most technologies illustrated as "new media" are digital, frequently having characteristics of being manipulated, dense, networkable, interactive, and compressible. Several illustrations may be the, computer multimedia, websites, and video games, Internet, DVDs and CD-ROM. New media does not comprise television programs, magazines, feature films, books, or paper-based publications – if they not consist of technologies which enable digital interactivity.

History of New media:

The term has in reality been utilized as the 1970s by researchers conducting social, economic, psychological, cultural and political studies of communication and information technologies (Lievrouw 2002). But like the field met along with enormous growth in the 1990s – like CD-ROM and Internet technologies turned onto popular – its meanings changed considerably.

Several writers have come to explain new media along with easy lists of technologies, like: DV editing, HTML, CD-ROM, streaming media, DVD-video and web applications. The problem along with this is that its specificity needs the definition to modify constantly, like this would have in 1993, after that again in 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2002. Its effort would seem fruitless, as several technologies prosper and others falter more time.

New Media Communication Technologies:

Now here are several contemporary New Media communication technologies which are a mix of interpersonal communication and mass communication.

Virtual Reality Worlds:

A virtual world is simulated through a computer, exhibits as a three-dimensional environment on the computer's monitor display, and intended for its users to interact and inhabit via graphical avatar presentations of themselves.

The virtual worlds occasionally are treated to as collaborative virtual environments (CVEs), multi-user virtual environments (MUVEs) since they occupy more than one person's avatar or immersive virtual environments (IVEs) since the user in reality senses being inside the world.

The other significant virtual reality tool is Google Earth that makes a mash up of satellite maps, imagery, and 3D buildings and terrain.

Blogs:

It is short for weblog, a type of online journal. Best identify services are Squarespace and WordPress and Blogger, LiveJournal and Typepad and. A blog can consist of a single author or many. Most blogs permit readers to post comments in response to an article or post, however several do not. Bloglines is an RSS reader that is a service which collects updates from your desired blogs so you can read them in one place.

Social Networks:

A social networking site where users can develop formal connections to people they know, set up a profile of themselves and communicate, and share their interests and preferences as like: Facebook.

Internet Calling:

An Internet calling service, Skype is reminiscent of the telephone. This enables two-party video and audio chat and multi-party audio-conferencing. Skype can develop computer-to-computer calls and also computer-to-land or mobile phone calls. Yahoo! Voice is an Internet calling service which has the capability to allocate a phone number to your computer hence this can be known from mobile phones and land-line; computer-to-computer calls from in Yahoo! Messenger; and computer-to-phone calls.

Difference between old media and new media:

Old Media:

The “old media” are magazines and newspapers, direct mail advertising, television and radio.  Each of one is based on a number of assumptions:

A) There are simply a restricted number of “players” in the market.  The market entry price is high.  In several regions (TV and radio) there is a “natural” bound on the number of players.

B) With this, Old Media are geographically restricted.  Tele Vision and Radio stations can simply broadcast so far.  International mail is not fast, not reliable and often costly.

C) Communications are strictly in one manner.  The content sender sends information to the consumer and the consumer sent money to the sender.  There is no mechanism for a flow of either information or money in front of direction.  The consumer is strictly passive.

D) Sender has detailed and specific control of what the consumer hears or sees.

E) Presentation is more significant than content.  Presentation and content cannot be separated. “The mediator is the message”.

New Media:

While we see at the “new media” like the World Wide Web, we observe the specific opposite of the “old media” assumptions:

A) The number of players is limitless.  Entry price is no more than a computer and an Internet connection or a modem.  Here are no “natural” restrictions to the number of players.

B) No place in the world is appreciably further away than any other place.

C) Communication is inherently two- way.  The consumer is active.

D) Senders not simply do not; they cannot control particularly what the consumer sees.

E) Content is more significant than presentation.  Presentation and content are separate. The mediator is specified by the viewer; the message is specified by the creator.

F) The “old media” companies are, obviously, trying to force the Web in the “old media” mold.  They know it and feel that, whether the new looks enough like the old, which they can control it. Unfortunately, forcing “old media” assumptions on the Web is at excellent obnoxious and at bad, completely nonfunctional.
