Question: I used to think the Supreme Court was this distant thing that only mattered to lawyers but the more I learn in this class the more I realize their decisions show up in regular life constantly. Like Miranda rights for example. Every time you watch a cop show and hear "you have the right to remain silent" that whole script exists because of one court case. Same with schools not being able to force students to salute the flag or search phones without a warrant. What gets me is that nine unelected people who serve for life basically get the final word on stuff that affects millions of us and most people can't even name three justices. I get why the founders wanted the court insulated from politics but it feels weird that so much power comes with so little public attention.
