Problem:

Fall of the Republic

Is it just me, or were the chain of events described by Spielvogel in Western Civilization (2018, Eleventh Edition) and how the fall of Rome came about, reminiscent of the United States? As I read the text and jot down notes, the simalrities between their govermental structure and the unrest within Rome, serve as great implications as to what could take place, today.

In Rome, they had a Senate which was a governmental party made up of the most wealthy and prominent families of their socitey. These Senators who , "remained senators for life and held the chief magistracies of the state" (Speilvogel, 2018, pg 135), were a, "select circle of powerful and wealthy families the senate". Like today, it was very likely that the senate did not act in best interests of the people of Rome as implied by Speilvogel when he said that, "the senate had become the effective governing body of the Roman state, through it's own initiatives and not by law" (Spielvogel, 2018).  Similarly, in Romans times if someone spoke up, threatening the senate's power or authority, the senate assassinated them. Often times, in the modern world, the government becomes the focus of our speculation when an influential person who has an idea that challenges business as usual, is assassinated.

Rome found itself in political turmoil as a result of many wrong ideas that ultimately boil down to their desire to rule over one another. Not to mention the government acting on their own and disregarding the needs of their people. This concoction of varying perspectives was based on lack and greed. Leading the nation into civil wars and later found to be governed by dictators. What roles do you think their gods played in this?

Write 200 very, very simple English words and reply to Nhavottae's post above. Tell Nhavottae that I support the post above. Based the information in my reply to the post above on the two works cited below and write the textbook page numbers in a MLA format. Also answer the highlighted question above why there pagan Gods caused there downfall instead of worshipping the true and divine God of the Isrealites and bring a reference from the Bible with chapter and a verse.
