What has been driving unmanned aerial vehicles


Problem: For the most part, what has been driving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their advancement in recent years has been war. They provide the capability of using a disposable piece of equipment that may only cost a few hundred dollars per mission while keeping the operator far from danger. Instead of risking a pilot and an expensive aircraft, a UAV can complete reconnaissance or strike missions at a much lower cost while still providing valuable intelligence. Another major advancement has come from improvements in 3D printing. Many UAV parts can now be designed, printed, tested, and replaced much faster than with traditional manufacturing methods. Even better, failed prints and broken parts do not always have to be thrown away. Today, 3D printing scraps can be fed through a shredder, melted back into filament, and respooled into reusable filament for future prints. This lowers production costs, reduces waste, and allows rapid prototyping and repairs, making UAV development even more efficient. In recent years, we have seen UAVs strike key positions and targets, showing the growing need for advanced pilots. Overall, having eyes in the sky with low visibility and high-resolution cameras can create privacy concerns in our country. While our country allows independent filming and journalism, that does not give anyone the right to invade another person's personal space.
