1) Read "Theorizing the Bachelorette"
a) What's the point of doing all this stuff we've been doing? (Learning feminist film theory, cultural studies, strategies for reading with a feminist lens, etc?)
b) Do you think feminist theory teaches us to hate TV and, by extension, popular culture? And if it does, why not just turn toward feminist historiography/pop culture studies and away from feminist film theory (with its reliance on psychoanalytic theory)?
c) Where does that leave us in terms of deriving pleasure from popular culture? In other words, what do we do with the fact that we might actually enjoy watching [The Real Housewives, etc., etc.]?
2) "Reality TV Has Value" Download "Reality TV Has Value" by Michael Hirschorn
a) Why does Hirschorn argue that Reality TV has value? What is the value?
b) What do you think about this argument, in light of what you have learned in this course overall?
c) Do you think you will watch television (reality and other genres alike) differently after taking this class? If so, how? If not, why not?
