Tracking gender based disparities between men and women


Problem: The World Economic Forum (2017) introduced The Global Gender Gap Report in 2006 as way of tracking gender based disparities between men and women in the world. The most recent report in 2017 analyzed 144 countries on gender equality in the areas of: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. Countries are then ranked to create global awareness of the challenges posed by gender gaps in different areas of the world. Results indicated: The top spots were held by smaller Western European countries, particularly the Nordic countries. The United States ranked 49th.
