Working definition of white privilege is the unearned reward

Problem:

Acknowledge and respond to the following in 75 words or more: A working definition of white privilege is the unearned rewards, advantages and protections that White individuals experience in society because of their racial identity/color. Benefits like these are often neglected by those who have them but are built into social systems. Diller (2020) explains that "dominant cultural standards in the United States are largely shaped by White, Eurocentric values, which can position White individuals as the "norm" while marginalizing others." McIntosh (1988) described White privilege as" an "invisible knapsack" of unearned assets that White individuals can rely on daily without realizing it." Having mindfulness of White privilege in social work is critical because our profession is rooted in social justice and equality. If we fail to recognize how privileges operate, we may unintentionally "accept issues". . DiAngelo (2018) notes that "many White individuals are socialized not to see race, which can prevent meaningful conversations about inequality." As social workers, we must engage in ongoing self-reflection, examine how policies and practices could favor dominant groups, and actively work toward anti-racist practice. Awareness of White privilege helps ensure that we provide culturally responsive services and advocate for systems that promote fairness and dignity for all clients. Need Assignment Help?
