Problem:
Prejudice is a negative belief or attitude about a group of people, while discrimination is the action taken because of those beliefs. In other words, prejudice happens in the mind, and discrimination shows up in behavior. A historical example outside the U.S. would be apartheid in South Africa, where laws separated people based on race and limited rights for none white citizens. That was discrimination built into the legal system. Today, discrimination still exists in different forms around the like ethnic minorities facing job or housing barriers. Race and ethnicity are related but not the same. Race is usually based on physical traits like skin color, while ethnicity is connected to culture, language, ancestry, or traditions.(Conerly et al., 2021) Someone might share the same race as another person but have a completely different ethnic background. If i could conduct a sociology study, i would focus on how race and ethnicity affect access to healthcare. As a future nurse, i think it's important to understand weather certain communities receive different treatment or experience barriers, and why that happens.
