Theory and practice of counseling and psychotherapy

Problem:

Building on my original post, I believe both my technique and your selection are effective; however, Tanya use of the Empty Chair technique is slightly more effective overall for the Jenifah case.

Both approaches aim for similar outcomes, including increased self-awareness, emotional expression, and integration of conflicting parts of the self. These goals are consistent with Gestalt therapy's emphasis on present-moment awareness and personal responsibility (Corey, 2024).

The difference lies in how those outcomes are reached. My approach emphasizes pacing and emotional containment to ensure Jenifah feels supported and not overwhelmed. In contrast, the peer's approach uses the Empty Chair technique in a more direct, experiential way, bringing unresolved emotions into the here and now more immediately. This direct engagement with unfinished business is a key strength of Gestalt therapy (Perls et al., 1951).

While my approach may be more appropriate early in treatment, Tanya's selection appears slightly more effective because it more fully engages Gestalt therapy's experiential focus and supports deeper emotional integration (Perls, 1969). Need Assignment Help?

This needs a response for a peer Vandashell who responded to my post and now she needs a response and in text citations and references at the end
