Social-emotional needs in relation to classroom management

Problem: It is important to understand our students developmental, physical, social and emotional needs in relation to classroom management and our own resiliency and professional needs. Classroom management is not a one size fits all approach and is a technique in which all children should be treated differently based on needs. As such, it is important to "use a communicative style that encourages a comfortable, nonthreatening environment that is free of the fear of embarrassment, harassment, or harm" (Holt & Kysilka, 2006). Although it is important to create a comfortable and non threatening environment, an educator needs to send classroom rules and expectations through the first week of class. By setting rules and expectations, students will adapt to the classroom environment and have better behavioral results. Student classroom behaviors have a direct correlation on teacher resiliency and professional needs. If a teacher does not have solid classroom management skills to manage behaviors, teacher burnout can be a serious threat to career longevity. When dealing with classroom behaviors that can affect teacher resiliency and professional needs, it is vital to involve a parent or guardian when necessary. "It is vital to enlist the support of parents or legal guardian of the student who has been disruptive in your classroom" (Holt & Kysilka, 2006). By involving parents in a Childs classroom behaviors, it can save teachers added stress an improve resiliency and professional. Need Assignment Help?
