Describe: the main results/trends in your collected data

On January 2, 2013, my survey about drugs was sent to seventeen of participants who are students at Abu Dhabi Women’s College. Most of these female students are Emiratis between the ages of 18 and 21 who are looking forward to majoring in bachelor degrees in the field of Business Administration.

After sending the survey to my target audience, I fortunately received the responses of all the participants. These responses had some trends. Almost a majority of the respondents believed that the best way to decrease the number of drug users in UAE is to charge and threaten whoever distributes and uses drugs with severe punishment. In other hand, the respondents had no agreement with the statement that says that the Government and the Ministry of Health are trying their best to inform people about the dangerous health risks of drug usage. The responses received on this statement showed that equal numbers of average rating disagreed and agreed. Moreover, a total of 3 out of 17 respondents that has the highest average rate of 2.33 said that they are a little aware of the health risks that could occur when using drugs.

Because of the high percentage of respondents who lack important health information, I believe that the Government and the Ministry of Health needs to work harder in performing their job in informing the UAE citizens of the dangerous health facts that could develop when taking drugs.

According to how widespread of drug usage in the UAE, 6 respondents out of 17 thought it was hardly widespread. A percentage of 47.06% which is nearly half of the respondents believed that the main reason that prevents the drug addicts from looking for treatments is their fear from the people’s opinion. The reason of respondents choosing this answer could be that nowadays, the people’s opinion is considered to be very important. In some situations, people’s perception differs. For example, the survey result showed that an average rating of 1.75 agreed with the statement of the environment in which the child is surrounded plays a very important role in their involvements in drugs, whereas an average rating of 2.00 disagreed. This is because people’s experiences, knowledge, and beliefs differ.

Finally, I found unusual findings that surprised me a lot because the result was way beyond my expectations. According to my research data, I have recently realized that almost half of the respondents believed that peer pressure is considered the main reason that encourages young people to become involved with drugs. Throughout my understanding, I have always thought that availability and curiosity were the main motives, but it seems that the peer pressure had a greater influence. Unfortunately, nowadays, my society seems to lack this important knowledge that has a big influence not just on the young children, but also the future generations. After knowing this important information, I would like to offer advice and increase awareness among the UAE citizens.
