Problem:
1. One child-serving discipline that I am not immersed in is the Juvenile justice system. Their main goal is to reduce future recidivism, this is often accomplished by limiting exposure to future risks of recidivism whether this be done by addressing substance abuse issues or behavioral health issues. 2. A challenge that accompanies collaborating with different systems often lies within the differing goals. Each system has different goals that their focused on, which often causes them to narrow in on what steps are needed to accomplish that specific goal rather than the overarching well-being of the child. Another challenge that accompanies this is the different means and methods of achieving these differing goals.
3. In order to be an effective child advocate it is important to understand each of the different systems I will be collaborating with, this can help me to better unite our goals and understand their intent. This means understanding child development, the laws pertaining to children and families, the education system , and the role of trauma (just to name a few components)(Garcia, 2021). A vital skill in collaborating is also to be an effective communicator, this is where most collaboration efforts break down, they fail to communicate their goals and work together to see them through.
