My name is Lisette (preferred) and I am located in Augusta, GA. I am majoring in Psychology (BS) with the Life Sciences option, I currently am a manager of a team for a Fortune 250 company, and I am taking 2 courses this semester.

Prior to our lesson and assigned article, I would have defined motivation as the internal drive to strive for something important to you. How I view this has only been enhanced by this week's reading material. It has helped solidify for me that motivation is really variable person to person and there is no all-encompassing definition that will explain it perfectly. A brief example of motivation from my own experience is my path to becoming a leader of my current team. I was on the team several years back and the company/team culture was amazing and it was easily one of the best roles I've had. This served as my initial arousal, motivating me to want to be a bigger part of this team and it's future successes. My direction became clear and I positioned myself to continue growing my leader mindset for a future role on the team. I moved on from this role to a training position which furthered my knowledge. It also required a high level of intensity, as I invested significant effort into developing professionally. Even when other management opportunities presented themselves, I demonstrated persistence by remaining focused on my long-term goal of leading this specific team. I worked closely with my leader, who supported and helped refine my skills. This all helped to prepare me for when the manager position became available.

The article stresses that motivation is not only an internal drive. It is in direct correlation the culture and structure within a company. Motivation does not only come from a person's internal desires but also from leadership practices and an environment where successes are celebrated and there is room for development. In my own experience, I can definitely say my motivation was not only driven by me, but by the culture within my space. They boosted me, celebrated my wins, and made me feel valued. Based on this, I think organizations should formalize leadership development and focus on creating supportive dynamics that empower employees to seek growth. We've had huge success with mentorship/internship programs not only internally, but across departments. Need Assignment Help?
