Amoebiasis in man is due to the infection by the protozoan endo parasite (i.e., Sarcodina) Entamoeba histolytica.  It is universal in distribution though its prevalence is bigger in tropics and sub tropics than in temperate zones. The vegetative trophozoite type is pathogenic. The trophozoites make their way cavernous into the sub mucosa of the large intestinal wall by eating via the intestinal mucosa. The ulcer and the blood contents pour into the lumen of the intestine and pass out as a bloody stool.  This characterizes the amoebic dysentery or amoebiasis.
