Once classes and objects have been  identified now the analyst begins  to focus on  classification  structure. Each  objects  is considered as a generalization then as a specialization . that is the instances of an object are defined and named.

Specialization is an entity set which  may  include sub grouping of entities that are distinct in some way from  other entities  in the set. Whereas in the  generalization, multiple entity  sets are synthesized into  a higher level entity set on the basis of common features.

To illustrate them consider an example shown diagrammatically in fig

In the fig above, the generalization class A is further refined into a set of specializations that are B, C, and D. The  attributes and operation of class A are inherited by the specialization of the class.

Consider an another example of generalization   specialization . let a class person is an entity  set with the following  attributes name street and city.

According  to specialities person may be further classified  as  customer and employee. These  two classes ( entity sets) include all the  attributes of entity set person and some more additional attributes. The additional attributes of customer is customer  id and of employee id and salary. This example is illustrated in fig below,

So it  can be seen from the fig above, that  entity  sets customer and employee synthesize  the common  features  of entity  set person and also their own ones.

In some other  type of cases, an objects represented in the  initial model can actually  be composed of a numbers   of components  parts ( objects only) . structures  of this  type are  called as assembly structures. They are shown in fig below
