Significance of de-Broglie waves:

The wave nature of matter, though, has no importance for objects of ordinary size as wavelength of the wave related with them is too small to be sensed. This can be exemplified by the following illustrations.

1) Let’s assume an electron of mass 9.1 × 10-31 kg and moving with a velocity of 107 ms-1. The de-Broglie wavelength will be:

This value of λ can be measured by the process similar to that for the determination of X-rays wave length.

2) Let us now assume a ball of mass 10-2 kg moving with a velocity of 102 ms-1. Its de-Broglie wave length will be:

The above wavelength is too small to be measured, and therefore de-Broglie relation has no importance for such a large object.

Therefore, de-Broglie concept is important only for sub-microscopic objects in the variety of atoms, molecules or smaller sub-atomic particles.
