Noble Gases or Inert Gases:

Group 18 of the periodic table comprise of helium, argon, neon, krypton, xenon and radon. All such are gases under ordinary situations of temperature and pressure. All of them (except Rn) are present in air traces. Rn is acquired from radioactive disintegration of radium.

On account of their very small quantities in atmosphere, they were termed as rare gases. Due to their chemical inactivity, these were termed as inert gases. A number of xenon compounds and two krypton fluorides were made and therefore they were termed as noble gases.
