Plastids

Plastids:

Plastids are the biggest cytoplasmic organelles enclosed by double membrane. These are found in many plant cells and in several photosynthetic protists. These are not present in prokaryotes and in animal cells. The plastids are of three kinds that are, chloroplasts, Chromoplasts and leucoplasts.

Chromoplasts are colored plastids other than green. They are found in colored portions of plants like petals of flower, pericarp of the fruits and so on.

Leucoplasts are the colorless plastids. These colorless plastids are included in the storage of fats, carbohydrates, and oils and proteins. The plastids that store carbohydrates are termed as amyloplasts. The plastids storing fats and oils are termed as elaioplasts. The plastids storing protein are termed as proteinoplasts.
