The respiroscope is a glass apparatus containing a bulb type part along with a bent neck and vertical tube. Germinating seeds are engaged in the bulb and the mouth of the tube is maintained immersed in the beaker consisting of KOH solution as displayed in the diagram.

The respiroscope is certain in the vertical position along with the help of a stand. So, the enclosed air in the bulb is totally cut off from the atmosphere. The apparatus is reserved undisturbed for some hours.
