Buds

Buds:

Buds are the young shoot, still to develop. They contain compressed axis in which the internodes are not extended and the young leaves are closed and crowded. Whenever these buds build up the internodes elongate and then the leaves spread out.

Whenever a bud is found at the apex of the main branch or stem it is termed as terminal bud or apical bud. Whenever a bud occurs in the axil of a leaf, it is termed as axillary bud. Certain buds develop in places other than the normal. These buds are termed as adventitious buds. Example: Bryophyllum. In this, the buds occur on the leaves. These are termed as epiphyllous buds.
