Migration of acetyl CoA to the cytoplasm from the mitochondria is facilitated via the condensation of the acetyl CoA along with oxaloacetate to create citrate that is permeable to mitochondrial membrane. Citrate readily decomposed back to acetyl CoA and oxaloacetate in the existence of ATP and co-enzyme A via the action of an enzyme known as ATP – Citrate lyase in the cytoplasm.
