Throughout translation the ribosome always exposes two mRNA codons to be translated by moving all along the mRNA. Whenever a peptide bond is made the ribosome shifts to expose the next codon. This moving is termed as ribosomal translocation. (In rough endoplasmic reticulum ribosomes are attached exterior the membrane and mRNA molecules instead moving via them).
