Problem:
Please write a response to my classmate - There are tons of reasons why mental health, foster care, and prison systems are not fair. Implicit bias affects how professionals see and work with young people of color, which often leads to worse actions and unfair treatment (Garcia, 2026). Second, racial differences in service delivery mean that Black and Brown youth are less likely to get mental health care quickly and effectively, especially from agencies that don't have enough money (Garcia, 2023). Third, the fact that prison and foster care systems are similar makes punishment more common and families less stable, which has a bigger effect on Black communities (Roberts, 2012). Many of the LGBTQ+ youth in Invisible were also youth of color. As they transitioned to adulthood, they faced discrimination, unsafe school environments, family rejection, and limited access to services that supported them, unlike others in the community. According to a study published in the Journal of School Psychology in 2024, LGBTQ+ youth report more victimization and a bad school environment, which raises mental health risks. When kids aged out of foster care, they faced more problems, like unstable housing and not having regular adult support. As a child advocate, I would help "invisible" and BILPOC youth get ready early on by teaching them life skills, finding them jobs and housing, and connecting them with supportive mentors and community resources to set them up for success.
