Problem
For this problem, you will need to write a brief essay, perhaps three paragraphs, about the satire in Swift's "Modest Proposal ". Remember that the reading is provided in the Read section of this lesson.
Swift's essay, his modest proposal, is to be analyzed as a satire. What is it that Swift is satirizing? How do we suspect that it might be a satire and not a straightforward proposal? Use the textual evidence from the reading which they provided in the lesson for the essay.
Here is a suggested outline of a three-paragraph essay. It is likely to work better with five paragraphs, but three could work.
1) Thesis Paragraph
2) Details of the problem he is satirizing, with a solution that the author is providing Include one or two quotes from the reading
3) Why do we think that he is making a satire and not suggesting a straightforward solution? Include one or two quotes from the reading as evidence.
