Why correlation does not prove causation


Problem: An old adage in psychology research methods courses is that "correlation does not prove causation".  After reviewing this week's readings in Stanovich, discuss what that adage means. If it is true that correlational research cannot be used to demonstrate causal relationships, what other value might it serve?
