What happened to religious tolerance

Problem: Shortly reply to this and generate a question. What happened to religious tolerance during this time? Explain and support your answer. Religious tolerance during this time was starting to take a downward spiral. I think a part of this really had to do with what was going on with the interracial marriage bands as well, and the different stances from different churches in certain states. Couples that were interracial had to travel out of their state if there was an interracial marriage ban there to get married elsewhere, where it was legal. Even if those people had grown up attending that church, they still had no choice but to find one where it was legal. On another topic of racism, where African Americans were the number one target for the KKK, the Ku Klux Klan during this time period the KKK also added Jews, Catholics, and foreigners to their list. The KKK made claims that the pope was responsible for bringing on World War I and had a master plan to have a Catholic take over, and thus " the brotherhood's literature made clear why the members of each of these groups created dangers against which every loyal American should be on guard". (Davies, 2010). These are just two examples of how religious tolerance was taking a turn for the worse. Not only were Christians from different denominations at an aggressive crossroads with each other. But people were obviously using whatever religion they believed in as an excuse to be racist towards African Americans and foreigners. Extreme white supremacists even believed that Italians, Jews, and even the Irish at one point were not. Need Assignment Help?
