At the time scale of seconds, two major theoretical views of perception exist. First, individual perceptions are part of a lifelong process of building an ever-changing map of the everyday world in which one lives. In the second view, perceptions are a facet (not a distinct entity) of the decision-action process, not self-contained representations of some external state that supplies information to the sensory system.
