I work in classrooms with students who have exceptionalities from cognitive development to behaviors. The two protective factors that stuck out the most to me in my line of work and in preparation for future work is Social Emotional competence of children and Parenting resilience. A large part of teaching students with exceptionalities is how to regulate their emotions and communicate needs. As most of the students are non-verbal, there needs to be support in place to allow them to communicate to have their needs met.
