SMALL INTESTINE -
A narrow tube 6 m long. In rabbit 4 m. long.Differentiated into duodenum, jejunum & Ileum.
(i) Duodenum -
2.5 cm long. C-shaped (U-shaped in rabbit).
It receives hepatopancreatic duct formed by the union of bile duct & pencreatic duct.
It opens at papillae of veter point, here splinctor of Oddi present.
In submucosa Brunner's glands present, open at crypt of leihberkuhn.
Villi are large.
(ii) Jejunum -
2.4 m long. It's walll is thicker and more vascular then ileum.
(iii) Ileum -
3.6 m long. Wall is thiner and less vascular.
On wall Payer's patches (30-60, yellow, lymphoid tissue) are present.
Brunner's glands are absent. Here surface area is increased, 600 times by there ways.
