Problem: Analyze and give a respond
Hello class
One category of social engineer I have encountered is the online scammer who impersonates people on social media. These attackers are effective because they build trust and appear friendly, often pretending to be someone familiar or someone offering an opportunity. They use emotional manipulation, curiosity, or financial incentives to trick victims into sharing information or sending money.
I experienced this when I received a message on social media from someone pretending to be a known company recruiter offering a remote job opportunity. The message seemed professional and included details about high pay and flexible hours. However, the attacker asked for personal information early in the conversation, which made me suspicious. I researched the company and realized the profile was fake and not associated with the real organization.
I immediately stopped responding, which prevented the attack from succeeding. Knowing what I know now, I would recognize similar attempts by verifying profiles, avoiding sharing personal information and researching opportunities before trusting them. Understanding these tactics helps me remain cautious and protect my personal and professional information from manipulation. Need Assignment Help?
