Reply to the following peer post: My name is China Adams. I graduated from Morehead in May with a Bachelor of Social Work. I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something great with my life. My life took a turn when I had gotten pregnant at 17 and a few years later I found myself addicted to opiates. That continued and the addiction progressed to doing various drugs until I went to treatment for the 2nd time. I was 28 years old when I decided to get clean. I had two young boys that I had lost custody of and I didn't feel like I wanted to live anymore. The treatment center I went to make a huge impact on my life and that is where I decided I wanted better for my life, I wanted my children back, and I wanted to do therapy. Need Assignment Help?
Fast forward to 2026. I have almost 7 years clean. I have earned a bachelors degree. I have custody of my children back and I am building a life that I never knew was possible. I have worked for the treatment center that I went to for the past 5 years as a peer support specialist, and now I am the Residential Care Coordinator. After earning my bachelors degree in social work I decided to take the Lindsey route. I decided this because initially I thought that maybe I wouldn't want to be a therapist for the rest of my life because of burnout from being a peer support. I also thought about the easier way out. A quick program that I would have only been in for a year then I'd have an MSW. Then I realized that I didn't find fulfillment anywhere else other than when I could see with a client and discuss real true emotions and watch the light come back into their eyes. Now becoming a therapist is all I want to do.
I have 6 cats, two dogs, a guinea pig, two growing teenage boys, a step-daughter, a husband, and a partridge in a pear tree. I like fishing, being outdoors, the fall, sewing and crafting.
I do not personally have my own motto but in the words of Matthew McConaughey "You just gotta keep livin man. L-I-V-I-N." That still rings true for me today.
