Problem: Substantively respond to this in 150 words: People always speculate when it comes to other people's behavior and actions. People are likely to be biased when making attributions because about others because it is something ingrained in us as human beings. We all have implicit bias, which, according to the APA, is the unconscious stereotypes towards certain groups that affect our attitudes and behaviors. Whether we like to admit it or not, everyone has bought into some type of stereotype at some point in their lives. Implicit bias can be a cognitive and motivational factor that influences our perceptions of others, our attitudes towards them, and behaviors even if they are not being done in a conscious manner. Some of the social and individual consequences of implicit bias are creating a certain level of discrimination or hatred towards a specific group. For example, negative implicit bias in law enforcement could be an officer seeing a person of color in a hoodie, and automatically assume they are a threat, as opposed to a white person wearing a hoodie. We have seen this time and again in our society, and it has unfortunately led to many inexcusable, unchangeable outcomes that could have been avoided if implicit bias was not a thing. Negative implicit bias can have real life consequences, and it is important that we try our hardest to make a conscious effort to get rid of those stereotypes and negative implicit biases in our heads.
