There are many differences when it comes to clinical and counseling psychology such as their training, their focus, and the problems they treat. Clinical psychology focuses on more serious mental illnesses, work with complex and severe conditions, they go by the diagnosis and treatment, and are more found in mental health centers, hospitals, and clinics. Counseling psychology focuses on adjustment and everyday life problems, they have less severe and developmental issues, they look at helping people and improving functioning, and work more in career centers, schools, or universities.
Chapter 10 influenced my interest in counseling psychology more than clinical because I like to focus more on everyday issues or developmental issues others are having and learning how to help. I personally enjoy more on the side of helping others learn and understand techniques they can use to help with these issues instead of the treatment that clinical psychology has.
Educational psychology is the understanding of how others learn and the ways of teaching certain skills or techniques can improve. It takes a deeper look into learning styles, development, classroom environments, memory, assessments, and motivation. This field does interest me a lot as I am a childcare worker every day and love learning the different learning styles, assessments, classroom environments, and how to get the kids motivated to want to learn and have fun with it.
School psychology is more focused on the student's behavior, academics, and emotions in supporting them. They work with both students and families to understand behavior issues, mental health, learning difficulties, and positive learning environments. This field also is something that interests me for the same reason.
