Upon completion of the grit assessment and the Big Five Personality Test, I discovered that I am of a moderate level of grit and that my most prevalent Big Five traits were openness, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. I feel like these results accurately reflect my personality because I am, in fact, a very reliable and creative person, and I typically have a calm demeanor while also still being able to avoid conflict if possible. I think that knowing these particular personality traits is important in recognizing how I typically handle long-term goals and what potential challenges I may be more prone to. These tests also help me understand the habits and practices that I need to reinforce to ensure success, such as being organized, and the potential areas where I must work harder to ensure my growth, like not being afraid to speak up or overexerting myself in social situations.
I also think that Rita Pierson is correct in her assumption that emotional connections are one of the most effective forms of motivation. There is a significant impact that comes from having at least one person in your life who has a very high level of belief in your ability, and even in situations where our struggles have an adverse effect on our ability to work hard, these encounters can also serve as fuel to drive us forward. My greatest cheerleader is a family member of mine that has never stopped reminding me of all that I am capable of doing, and every time that I receive this type of reinforcement, I am able to become exponentially more resilient in the face of difficulty. The grit and personality concepts directly relate to emotional intelligence and self-care because understanding yourself and how you might react in times of duress is a key step in preventing stress and being able to remain focused on achieving your goals.
