Nursing assessment and interventions for health promotion

Assignment task:

Health has various meanings today. In relation to health care, the definition of health has evolved, and it is now understood to include aspects of physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. In today's environment, we understand the connection between wellbeing, good health, and illness prevention. The lack of efficient sanitation practices, such as inadequate water disinfection and improper disposal of human waste, largely contributed to the occurrence and problems of controlling infectious diseases in the early 19th century. Good health was generally considered at this time to be the absence of diseases. During late 19th and early 20th centuries disease was better controlled due to persons practicing health hygiene. Disease prevention played an important role with the discovery and use of immunizations in the 20th century because many illnesses were practically gone (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2015). World health organization took over in 1948 where they continue promoting health nationwide. Evidence-based practice is important for both nurses and patients alike. It allows for nurse's professionals to develop best practices in treating common illnesses and diseases, reduce variation in treatment and increases positive outcomes and recovery. Nurses are aware that health-promoting behaviors are important in preventing noncommunicable, lifestyle-related diseases. Improved health awareness and knowledge, emotional and behavioral healing, and other benefits to each family's well-being are brought about through nursing assessment and interventions for health promotion (Wright & Leahey, 2013).
