MIDDLE LAMELLA

  • It is thin, amorphous, intercellular matrix between 2 adjacent plant cell.
  • The cells of plant tissue generally cemented together by an intercellular matrix known as the middle lamella.
  • The middle lamella is mainly composed of the pectin, lignin & some proteins. It is outermost layer of cell wall.
  • Chiefly made of Ca pactate.
  • Softening of ripe fruits is due to partial solubilisation of pectin present in middle lamella.
