  1. Discovered by Robert Hooke, 1665 when he saw dead empty cork cells.
  2. Bonner - studied the chemical nature of cell wall.
  3. The cell wall is a rigid & protective layer around the plasma membrane which provides the mechanical support to the cell.
  4. Cell wall present in Plants, Fungi, Prokaryotes & some protists.
  5. Absent in animal cell, mycoplasma, gametes and zoospores.
