Problem:
Example of media that profits largely from objectification of women. These studies confirmed that men who accept and are exposed to objectifying media representation of women are likely to carry attitudes that support violence against women. As revealed in Skorska and colleagues' (2018) research, the types of pornography, such as degrading or erotica, may yield different degrees of sexual objectification which may or may not lead to aggressive behavior as likely predicted with erotica, consensual, non-violent pornography. However, the authors acknowledged that confounding variables create limitations to their findings, making it difficult to predict whether hostile behavior will result regardless if the media contain violence or not (Skorska et al., 2018). In support of this claim, Cole et al. (2020) argued that predicting sexual aggression is challenging due to the inherent difficulty to isolate confounding variables. Generally, media is a tool that both intentionally and unintentionally preserve gender inequality. However, because it is not all negative, and, in a progressive society, may arguably bring more benefits than harm, it is arduous and almost impossible to regulate it in order to prevent sexual violence. Several branches of media continuously fortify the lucrative business of pornography that reinforce negative attitudes toward women, but because media is broad and constantly evolving, it could also be used to reverse these attitudes gradually in time. In short, media is a solution, too. Presently, a more practical solution to mitigate sexual violence is placing. Need Assignment Help?
