Electrocardiogram confirmed atrial fibrillation with a rapid ventricular rate. The patient was admitted for continuous cardiac monitoring, rate or rhythm control therapy, evaluation for potential precipitating factors, assessment of thromboembolic risk, and optimization of anticoagulation when appropriate.
