Leadership styles and types of communications


Leadership styles and motivational techniques are varied and specific to individuals. An understanding of leadership styles can aid you understand your role in organization that you work for at the entry level, as part of your criminal justice employment.

1) Assume that you were recently promoted to a supervisory position in a criminal justice agency, such as a police department, a sheriff's office, a jail, or a correctional facility. In light of the selected theory, discuss ways in which you would motivated the employees under your supervision.

2) In an organizational pyramid, summarize your observations of communication problems faced. Why is there a downward communication when there is (a) Increasing Number of People, (b) Decreasing Power in Decision Making and why is there upward communications when (a) Increasing Rewards and (b) Increasing Status.

Include a brief write up explaining why the concept of vertical communication is necessary in an organization with an established chain of command. Substantiate your rationale by citing examples of one or more criminal justice organizations.
