Implementation of the bilingual-bicultural education

Problem: Respond to the following in 120 words giving your opinion: Should I be considered a d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing person, I would opt for the implementation of the bilingual-bicultural education approach. A Bi-Bi educational model implies that a natural sign language (American Sign Language - ASL is an example) is used as the main language for learning, along with the teaching of the second language of English. One of the key advantages of choosing the Bi-Bi education approach is full language access. As the sign language is visual, it would eliminate the need to make sense of fragmented information from the auditory channel. Thus, I would be able to benefit from a comprehensive learning experience and improve my critical thinking. In addition, I believe there is also great value in the cultural aspect of a bilingual-bicultural program. As a result of exposure to Deaf culture, its history and community, it will be easier for me to develop an identity and feel more included in the community. Furthermore, from the research point of view as well as the educational one, it becomes apparent that a child must have a strong base in their first language to succeed academically. Thus, developing fluency in ASL will enable me to more easily learn literacy in English as opposed to learning the language itself and academic content simultaneously. Need Assignment Help?
